Fletcher tells Man Utd not to "waste the season" after FA Cup exit
da bwin: It was an all too familiar feeling at Old Trafford when full-time arrive against Brighton & Hove Albion last night. Man United had crashed out of yet another cup competition, the man in the dugout didn’t have the answers and some fans were protesting against the ownership.
It’s a feeling that the Red Devils will be desperate to shake for the first time since the Sir Alex Ferguson days as they search for their next manager.
Defeat against Brighton also saw Man United reach new lows. After exiting the Carabao Cup at the first attempt in a shock result against Grimsby Town and then doing the same in the FA Cup against Brighton, Man United will play just 40 games this season – their fewest since the 1914-15 campaign.
It’s a damning statistic, but interim boss Darren Fletcher urged his side to turn it into a positive at full-time – urging them to not “waste the season”.
Fletcher told reporters: “It’s about everyone and the players have to group together, take responsibility, find a way of improving quickly and taking on the challenge for the rest of the season. Don’t waste the season.”

Whether the FA Cup defeat was his final game is now the big question. It’s no secret that INEOS are searching for a caretaker boss until the end of the campaign and reports are now claiming that they’ve set their sights on a new frontrunner.
Michael Carrick emerges as Man Utd's "leading candidate"
As reported by The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, Michael Carrick is now the “leading candidate” to take the Man United job until the end of the season. Despite earlier reports suggesting that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could take up the role, Carrick has since held “face-to-face” talks with INEOS and is now the favourite.
It will be the 44-year-old’s second time in the caretaker position at Old Trafford after taking charge of three games in the 2021/22 campaign. This time around, his job is likely to last until the end of the season as the Red Devils get the chance to take a close look at his managerial talents.

Of course, outside of Manchester, Carrick spent almost three years at Middlesbrough, where he earned plenty of respect despite failing to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Thankfully for Jason Wilcox, Carrick also prefers to operate with a 4-2-3-1 system rather than with a back three in what proved to be Amorim’s downfall. If it is to be the former Man United midfielder, then it will be the biggest job of his career yet.
